Creating a New Business Using AI and MVOSSTE Part III - Setting an Objective

In the last two posts I have used AI to create a mission and vision statement for a business that produces carrying cases successfully. In the mission and vision I chose to focus on the job that a carrying case does to provide a wider range of possible business options that have carrying cases as a centerpiece.

Now it is time to establish objectives that align with the mission and vision. When prompting AI you may need to restate the mission and vision when asking for a set of objectives. In this case I have been using the same ChatGPT file and the previous prompts and responses are "remembered" and built upon.

Based on the mission and vision for this company (see the last two posts) AI provided the following objectives:

πŸ—“οΈ 1-Year Objectives (Foundation & Validation Phase)

1. Launch Foundational Product Line

  • Design, develop, and release an initial set of 3–5 carrying or mobility-focused solutions addressing key β€œjobs to be done” (e.g., protection, portability, organization).

  • Focus on 1–2 high-potential verticals (e.g., tech accessories, medical tools, or creator gear).

2. Establish Brand Identity & Market Presence

  • Finalize brand messaging around inclusion, integrity, and job-centric innovation.

  • Launch website, marketing assets, and social media presence.

  • Secure at least 5 early B2B or B2C customers for validation and feedback.

3. Build Collaborative Ecosystem

  • Form partnerships with at least 3 collaborators (e.g., contract manufacturers, designers, co-marketing allies).

  • Create inclusive practices for partner and customer engagement.

4. Implement Feedback-Driven Innovation Loop

  • Develop a system to capture user feedback, iterate products, and improve UX/UI (for both physical and digital offerings if applicable).

5. Achieve Initial Financial Milestones

  • Reach $250K–$500K in revenue from sales, licensing, or partnerships.

  • Maintain a gross margin of 40%+ to support reinvestment and sustainability.

πŸ—“οΈ 5-Year Objectives (Growth & Market Leadership Phase)

1. Diversify Product Portfolio Across Key Use Cases

  • Offer 20+ SKUs across multiple categories (e.g., smart protection gear, modular organizers, secure transport systems).

  • Expand into digital solutions (e.g., inventory apps, smart tracking, digital presentation tools).

2. Become a Recognized Brand in the Industry

  • Establish presence in 3+ global markets.

  • Win at least 2 industry awards for innovation, sustainability, or inclusion.

  • Secure brand collaborations with major tech, medical, or creative firms.

3. Scale Inclusive Innovation Ecosystem

  • Launch an open design or partner innovation platform.

  • Support supplier diversity and inclusive hiring practices across the value chain.

4. Reach Financial Growth Milestones

  • Achieve $10M+ in annual revenue with positive net income.

  • Maintain customer retention rates over 70% and Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 50+.

5. Build Thought Leadership & Social Impact

  • Publish annual impact and innovation reports.

  • Contribute to standards or policy development in sustainability, mobility, or protective tech.

  • Sponsor inclusion-focused design challenges or incubators.

The business leaders can review these objectives and eliminate those that they do not want to pursue or expand for greater opportunities. AI can help provide options in either case.

Let's assume that these are acceptable objectives. To pursue these objectives we need a clearer picture of the line of business we want to be in. AI can be helpful here by identifying products and services that fit with the mission, vision and objectives set. Asked to generate a list of products or services the AI response was:

I hope it is becoming evident that following the MVOSSTE framework when using AI creates better outcomes since it first creates a foundation and builds from there. The next step is Situational Analysis which will determine the research required to achieve the objectives and provide the business leadership with data that can help in deciding on the best product or service areas to focus. We will cover this in my next post.
